Reiki Energy Session for Yourself
Many beginners, after receiving an attunement but without first completing basic Reiki courses such as Traditional Reiki or Kundalini Reiki, often ask: “How do I conduct a Reiki session?”
In most Reiki systems, sessions are performed in a similar way, with the exception of more advanced systems such as Divine Body Alignment or Light Cosmetology, as well as sessions in the Traditional Reiki system, which involve hand positions and usually last about 1–1.5 hours. In this article, we will focus on the simplest way to conduct a Reiki session.
Basic Principles of a Reiki Session
The most important step in conducting a session—whether for yourself or remotely for another person—is to clearly express your intention.
Another key element is observing the sensations in your body during the session. Try to remain present and aware rather than drifting into thoughts. Stay in the moment and simply observe how the energy moves and what you experience in your body.
If this feels difficult, practicing basic meditation may help you develop greater focus and awareness.
Some people feel Reiki energy very clearly, while others notice it only subtly. If you do not feel much at first, simply trust the process. The session can still be meaningful even if your sensitivity is low.
Sometimes people experience visual images, memories, or insights during a session. This is natural and may vary from person to person.
How to Conduct a Reiki Session for Yourself
-
Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
-
If you wish, create a calm atmosphere by playing soft music or lighting candles or incense.
-
You may receive the session sitting, lying down, or even standing. Try different positions and choose the one that feels most comfortable for you.
-
When you feel ready and are comfortably positioned, keeping your arms and legs uncrossed, express your intention:
“I invite my Higher Self, my angels and archangels, and ask for guidance in this session. I invite the energy of (name the energy) and ask it to support me with (state your intention or purpose).”
-
After this, remain in a relaxed, meditative state for about 20 minutes, which is the average length of a Reiki session. (Sessions with hand placements in the Traditional Reiki system may take longer.)
-
When the energy flow naturally completes, you may notice it intuitively. Your eyes may open on their own, or you may simply feel that the flow has settled.
-
After the session, take a moment to ground yourself. Offer gratitude to the energy, your Higher Self, angels, archangels, and anyone you invited to support the session. Rest for a few minutes, drink a glass of water, and gently return to your daily activities.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions should I do?
After receiving an attunement, it is commonly recommended to practice Reiki sessions daily for 21 days, and afterward continue as desired or when needed.
How often can Reiki sessions be performed?
Reiki sessions may be practiced several times a day. If you are working with energies from different Reiki systems, it is helpful to leave a 2–3 hour break between sessions.
Can different Reiki energies be combined?
Some schools recommend practicing with one energy for 21 days before adding others. However, many practitioners feel that once you receive an attunement, you already have access to that energy.
It may still be beneficial to practice with each energy individually for 7–10 days to understand how it interacts with your energy field. If you are sensitive to energy, you may even notice which parts of the body or which aspects of your life it supports.
After gaining familiarity, you may combine energies if you wish—preferably no more than two or three in one session. It is best to combine energies with a similar intention, such as abundance-related energies or those connected with love and relationships.
